Circuit Show #3
Written by Administrator
Monday, 22 June 2009
Thank you to all 4-H'ers who took part in any or all three of this seasons circuit shows. The shows ran under a variety of weather & grounds conditions and judging preference. We hope that you learned something new at each show, increased your riding confidence, and took advantage of the knowledge and experience available to you in preparation of the 2009 Waukesha County Fair. Between now and fair it is up to you to practice and prepare!

Throughout the 2008-2009 season ample opportunities were presented to meet both Member Service and Clinic requirements. Congratulations to all members who successfully met these requirements!

Horse & Rider points for Circuit Show #3 are now available.

As you review the points, be aware that results are not final until reviewed by representatives of the Waukesha County 4-H Horse Association at the end of the 2008/2009 season. There are categories that may need interpretation for final results and all results will be reviewed. Please check your points and rider/horse name and number for accuracy.

Please continue to watch this site for new postings and important information between now and the start of Fair.

June 17 Clinics and Horseless Horse Member Party
Written by Administrator
Thursday, 18 June 2009

Thank you to all members and family who took part in the June 17 events.

Special thanks goes out to showmanship clinician Betty Kowalski (of Kowalski Quarter Horses- Mukwonago, WI), trail clinician & WC4-H alumni, Katelyn Sumner, and the WC4-HHA Youth Board members who coordinated the Horseless Horse clinic and party.

This event was coordinated and run through the efforts of your Waukesha County 4-H Horse Association Board. We are very pleased to have seen a dramatic increase in the level of clinic and event participation; with many members participating in excess of mandatory clinic requirements. Reaching out to county horse project leaders and members has resulted in the production of new and informative clinic topics that have been well received throughout the 2008-2009 season.

The June 17 clinics were also attended by representatives from our county Sheep, Swine, and Beef projects - thank you for attending!

3rd AND FINAL CIRCUIT SHOW - THIS SATURDAY!
Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 16 June 2009

This Saturday is our 3rd and final Circuit Show for the 2009 season. We have been experiencing several infractions of the rules at each show. These rules are few; They are imposed for everyone's safety; They are easy to follow. To make the show experience safe and pleasurable for everyone, please take a moment to review the Show Rules:

show-clinic-rules.pdf

Think of our rules as a rehersal for county fair. At county fair there will be little leniency for infractions and discipline for many infractions is out of our hands while at county fair.

If you have not been on the site for a while, please scan through the previous few postings for improtant reminders, including the required use of shavings in stalls.

If your name was not on the list you have 2 to 4 hours of Member Service to fulfill. There is one more Circuit Show to accomplish your required 4 hours. Please review the Circuit Show #3 Volunteer Duty List to verify your duties or sign up if you have not done so.

In addition, this organization is made possible through the volunteer efforts of it's members. Some members put in literally hundreds of hours. Please respect everyone by showing up for the duties you were assigned or requested. And please consider giving additional volunteer time.

Thank you.

A few key points of interest as the last circuit show approaches …

Although we have not required bedding in the stalls in the past for a “day” circuit shows, the maintenance crew at the Expo has informed us that the lack of bedding in the stalls causes premature deterioration of the floor base, resulting in costly maintenance of the stalls.    4-H members that are wanting to use a stall at the circuit show must provide their own shavings bedding (even if it is a ½ of bag)  in the stalls to soak up any “wet spots” that may occur.  THIS IS A REQUIREMENT, EFFECTIVE AS OF THE JUNE 20th CIRCUIT SHOW.   Failure to comply with this bedding request will result in loss of the use of the stall or the required purchase of bedding at the show at a premium cost.   We need everyone’s cooperation as the WC4-HHA organization does not want to be charged for excessive maintenance costs to repair the bases of the stall floors.

In addition, for those exhibitors working out the trailers, please scoop and discard of all manure that accumulates near your trailer.  Either dispose of it near the barn or take it with you when you leave.  The Expo is charging is $50 per hour for picking up manure in the parking area and we need to avoid this charge in the future.   And, as a reminder, there is no electrical RV hook ups available on the days of the circuit show.  Finally, it would be appreciated that truck and trailer rigs parking to the east and south of the show office, park in a north/south orientation, rather than an east/west orientation.  This will allow ample parking space for everyone.

A few other reminders about show etiquette:

·     There is NO coaching from show ring rail by leaders, parents or trainers.  The show is the time for the exhibitors to demonstrate the knowledge gained at home.

·     Spectators need to stand back (at least 5 feet) from the rail of the show ring, for the safety of riders, horses and spectators.

·     Each horse/rider combination needs a separate back number and that combination carries the same back number for all circuit shows.   If an exhibitor damaged the numbers from the first circuit show they attended, it is their responsibility to make new numbers for their back/pad for future shows.  A recommendation would be is to laminate those numbers for future use.

·     For the safety of all people at the show grounds, when an exhibitor becomes dislodged from their horse, riders in ALL rings must dismount upon direction of the announcer.   The announcer will indicate when it is safe to remount.

·     For safety reasons, all 4-H exhibitors must wear a helmet and proper footwear when leading or lunging a horse in any of the arenas – show ring or warm up arenas.   NO EXCEPTIONS.

With the 2009 Waukesha County Fair, just around the corner, we need the support of all members, leaders and parents to make this event pleasurable for all involved.

Fair expectations:

·     All horses are to be in place at the Fair by 6pm on Wednesday , July 15th.  Horses will not be allowed to leave the Fair until AFTER 7pm on July 19th.  This departure time will be strictly enforced.  Truck/trailer rings will not be allowed to stage for loading until AFTER 7pm.   Take time to enjoy REO Speedwagon on the Mainstage!

·     Each club is encouraged to create stall decorations.  Stall decoration judging will occur sometime between Thursday morning and Friday afternoon of Fair.

·     There WILL NOT be any horses stalled in a tent this year for Fair.

·     4-H exhibitors are discouraged from storing valuable tack in the tack stalls at Fair.  In light of current economic conditions, valuable tack is very tempting to would-be thieves.

Please contact Brenda Wolfe, Tim Smith or another WC4-HHA Board Member should you have any questions or concerns.

Inclement Weather Policy
Written by Brenda Wolfe
Wednesday, 06 May 2009
At the WC4-HHA Board Meeting this past Tuesday, we discussed procedures for dealing with inclement weather at horse shows.  I just want to reiterate that our standing policy is that all horse shows will be held rain or shine.  Shows will not be cancelled UNLESS weather conditions pose a safety hazard to horse or rider.  If there is lightening, torrential rain, tornadic like winds, the show will either be temporarily postponed or cancelled.  (The schooling show was cancelled due to lightening, heavy rain and the potential of high winds.) This decision to cancel a show will not be made until the morning of the show and most likely will not be communicated until most exhibitors are at the fairgrounds or in transit, therefore posting a notice to the website does not seem to very useful.  Light rain/scattered showers will not cancel a horse show, just as we did not cancel the English show day at the 2008 Waukesha County Fair.  In the case of rainy weather, don't hesitate to bring rain gear and schooling tack to show in.   If you feel that showing in the rain poses and safety concern for horse and/or rider, you are asked to use common sense and your own best judgement to detetmine if the less than desireable showing conditions suit your showing intentions.
